Good Glorious Morning to you!
Today I get to photograph 3 month old baby Finn. I love babies. I'm so excited.
A couple of weeks ago I was talking with Finn's mommy, Michele. She expressed some worry about the fear of people thinking badly of her if she has too many portraits in her home. Well, you can image my reaction. I fully understand her thoughts. You see, in MN particularly, we have this thing that is within us in which it is 'bad' to draw attention to ourselves.... I, too, have that disease. I read something about this. I don't remember the details well but, it stems from beliefs our ancestors had 200 years ago.
I have so much I can say about this but, most importantly ... "WHY would it be bad to show the love you have for your family by hanging pictures/portraits on your wall????" Why would it be better to have pictures of a landscape, deer or flowers rather than your children??? What better way to say "I love you." "Our family is important." "I treasure you." .... than to have photographs hanging on your walls so that the 'stories' of these photographs may be told and re-told time and again.
It seems as tho' portraits become more valuable as each chapter is added to your life. For Finn, today's portraits become more valuable when he goes to Kindergarten, when he graduates from high school, when he is married and... when he has his first child.
So, again ... I will say ... Have no regrets. Portraits are sooo worth it.
Have a super duper day!
Denise
